The $15 Vacation - How It All Started

About a year ago I wanted to find a free vacation. I searched the net, read the offers being made and eventually determined that "free" really meant: I would be slammed by hardcore, high pressure sales professionals once I arrived at the vacation destination. I would have to fork over my friends email addresses, giving the company offering the vacation the right to an unlimited spam fest on them. I would have to purchase something from an online store to get a vacation certificate I could call my very own. I would have to join a travel club for $200 to $300 to get their "free" vacation certificates. Other offers also promoted the "free vacation" but none of them were 100% free.
Of all the "free" offers, the one that came the closest was the certificate given as a promotion by the online store. By chance, I happened to get one of these from one of my wife's friends who got it with a purchase she made and thought it was a big scam. To redeem the certificate I had to either fill out a form online or mail the completed certificate in. In either case, there was a $15.00 processing/postage/handling fee that had to accompany the redemption order. I filled out the form, chose Las Vegas, Nevada as my vacation destination and mailed in the certificate along with a money order for $15.
About two weeks later I received a reservation form in the mail. There were a few requirements: The reservations had to be made a minimum of 60 days in advance. You had to arrive on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Dates on or near holidays or during large conventions were usually not available. The reservation was for two people over 21 years old. You had to give three different choices for your reservation date. So my wife and I sat down with a calendar and hashed out three different dates. We returned the completed reservation form along with a money order for $16.21 to cover the City of Las Vegas room tax.
Our reservation confirmation arrived a few weeks later. We, fortunately, got the dates that were number on on our list of three. We would be staying at the Paris Hotel and Casino. We were excited since there is no way of knowing which hotel you will be staying at. We've since found out that others have stayed not only at the Paris but also at the Tropicana, Bally's and the Imperial Palace. We checked online and found that our room would have been $180.00 for the 2 nights.
Our vacation in Las Vegas was great. So great in fact, after we got back we decided we wanted to give away the certificate we used to anyone who wanted one. My wife had a website called omegaextreme.com she used to promote tee shirts she made. She had it up for about two years and hadn't sold one shirt so we decided to use it to give away the certificate. So if you would like the certificate the download is 100% free - you will not have to purchase anything, give me your name or email address, join a travel club or do anything but download the .pdf file to get it. If you decide to activate the certificate, it's $15 + room tax for a 3 day 2 night vacation in one of 22 locations in the US and Mexico. Go to http://www.omegaextreme.com for the free certificate. If you decide you want to use it, enjoy your $15 vacation!
